Living Marimo Moss Necklace - Stone

$15.00

I’d like to officially re-introduce the original living marimo moss necklace. The marimo moss ball is actually a micro-algae that can be found in lakes of Japan and Scotland.

So what sets us aside from all the other marimo jewelry on the market? We started making these necklaces in 2015. At the time, and to this day, the only other options available on the market are either corked or completely sealed off which left competitors vials evaporating completely. But not ours! This necklace features a screw-able eyelet that allows you to replenish the water using a dropper that’s provided, ensuring it to live for many years to come instead of drying up and dying.

This small living moss ball is a great gift for that plant lover in your life.. even the brown thumbers can get it right. 😉

Product Details:

  • Glass Vial

  • Metal cap with screw

  • Stone colored clay pebbles

  • Living mini marimo moss ball

  • Stainless steel chain

Chain Care:

We’ve recently switched from silver plated BACK to stainless steel. While we enjoyed the very pretty and sparkling appearance of silver plated jewelry, well, it doesn’t last long which completely diminishes the whole point of this necklace. While I do not recommend showering with your necklace, to ensure continued longevity of your necklace, the chain is acceptable to get wet. When not wearing please keep in a dry location. Should you need to clean your chain you may gently wipe with appropriate stainless steel jewelry cleaner.

Marimo Care:

When you receive your marimo necklace, the water will have been mostly drained, leaving just enough moisture for the pebbles and moss to cling to the glass. This ensures it does not get overly shaken during transit and separation of its moss fibers. Marimo originally lives in lake bottoms being gently moved by water currents- not in a whirlpool. If you do not see your Marimo right away, there’s a good chance it’s hiding in the cap and will dislodge itself when you insert the plastic dropper. The Marimo can survive in the state it’s received for a longer time than we’d expect for it to be aquatic but still be sure to refill its water the same day it’s delivered. While Marimo can live in any type of cool water, including tap water, I personally like to provide distilled water or water that’s been able to sit out for 24 hours if it’s from the faucet.

Your necklace will evaporate naturally at a rate dependent on your location. If you’re wearing your necklace regularly and in a more humid area, the water will deplete faster. If you keep your necklace stored in a dry, dark place it will last longer. Please store your dropper in a safe place for refills.

How to Refill Necklace:

Please DO NOT try to remove the whole metal cap. This is not meant to be removed. Only the eyelet at the top of the cap is unscrewable. Please see last image for reference.
